| My research is inspired by my work as Associate Head, Research & Information Services at North Carolina State University Libraries and by my doctoral studies at the School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. It concerns issues surrounding reference services and information seeking in the academic environment. Librarians' Personal Theories of Practice The study of the personal practical theories of reference librarians is a promising new approach for better understanding librarians' thinking and beliefs. This research has the potential to explain the behavior of librarians and could lead to opportunities for their professional growth. Digital Reference and Beyond I am interested in the management and use of digital reference services and where we will push the boundaries of digital reference. Digital reference services create a wealth of data, and I am exploring ways to use that data to better understand and improve reference service. Student Use of Information in the Academic Environment I am also interested in better understanding the research experience of students and how academic libraries can facilitate their information seeking.
